Who We Are

The Geriatric Society of India – Kerala Branch (GSI Kerala) is the official state chapter of the Geriatric Society of India (GSI), the premier national body for geriatric medicine professionals in India. Established in 2024 and registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955, GSI Kerala represents geriatric medicine specialists, physicians engaged in elder care, and allied healthcare professionals across Kerala.

Background & Context

Kerala is among the states with the highest proportion of elderly population in India. The state's geriatric population is growing rapidly, creating substantial challenges for the healthcare system. GSI Kerala was formed in recognition of this demographic reality, with the mandate to build professional capacity, foster academic exchange, and advocate for evidence-based, patient-centred geriatric care.

Continuation of Medical Education Programmes

Inviting National and International faculty for medical updates

Conducting Patient Awareness Programmes

Conducting Medical Camps for geriatric patients

Associating with social organisations for geriatric education

Advancing knowledge and practice of Geriatric medicine

Encouraging research in the science of geriatric medicine

Organising conferences, exhibitions, and study circles

Publishing educational materials on geriatric medicine

Promoting charitable and humanitarian activities

Affiliation

GSI Kerala is affiliated to the Geriatric Society of India, the national body for geriatric medicine professionals in India. The state branch works in close coordination with the national body, participating in national conferences, contributing to national policy positions on geriatric care, and implementing national programmes at the state level.

Governance

The Society is governed by an elected Executive Committee consisting of eight members including the Chairman, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. Elections are held once every two years at the Annual General Meeting. The Executive Committee is responsible for the management of all activities, finances, and governance of the Society.

Nature of the Society

The Society is charitable and not-for-profit. Its funds and income are solely utilised for achieving its objects. No portion is utilised for payment to members by way of profit, interest, or dividend.

"To encourage and advance the knowledge, study and practice of the science of Geriatric medicine in all ways, and to promote the welfare of the elderly population of Kerala."
